(Waterloo) On Sunday, April 5, 2026, the Waterloo Police Department requested that the State of Iowa issue an Amber Alert for a missing 12-year-old child from Waterloo. Within approximately one hour, detectives were notified that law enforcement had located the suspect vehicle in Coloma Township, Michigan, and the child was found safe.
Following further investigation, detectives charged 23-year-old Daniyal Khan of Ann Arbor, Michigan, in connection with the incident. He faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, indecent contact with a child, and sexual exploitation of a minor.
Khan was taken into custody and booked into the Berrien County Jail, where he is currently being held. Authorities stated that no additional information will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
Officials also emphasized that a criminal charge or warrant is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
