(Oakland, IA) — Riverside has been looking for a new football head coach and they did not have to look far — Tyler Johannsen has been promoted to Football Head Coach and will also take over as Activities Director for the Bulldogs in the new school year. Johannsen is currently the Assistant Principal and has been on Darrell Frain’s staff as offensive and defensive line coach — he will stay as Assistant Principal and adds the AD title as well.
He says do not expect much changes in how Riverside plays football
Riverside does lose 13 seniors off last year’s 6-3 playoff team including All State RB Jaxon Gordon so Johannsen says there is a lot of work to do before next season
Johannsen grew up in Harlan and played sports for the Cyclones, graduating in 2013. He went to Iowa St. and Riverside was his first job out of college and eventually also got his Masters. He has been able to experience the winning tradition of Harlan and now the Bulldogs
Johannsen says it has been a big advantage to learn under Frain who he considers one of his mentors
Johannsen replaces Frain who announced his retirement in January — Frain spent 8 seasons as the football head coach and went 38-35 overall with three playoff teams.
