(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW Boys Track and Field had some highlights at their opening outdoor meet Tuesday at Audubon. Head Coach Jackson Renberg says they got some good times and were able to compete against some schools they will not see again and there was competition against some conference rivals. There was one win on the night for the Vikings — Senior Collin Harder won the 800 and Renberg expects him to be a leader this year with Luke Sternberg gone
Harder finished 9th at the 800 last year at state and was part of the 4×800 relay that finished in 10th place. AHSTW returns Harder, Chase Wheatley and Ty Nelson off that 4×800 so that and the 4×400 relays will be a focus for Renberg this year
Renberg says that 23 boys are out for track and field this spring — there were two kids who are injured right now and one who is sick. Renberg says they are young in the sprints and Roman Scheffler has some potential in the throws
AHSTW Boys are scheduled to compete in Griswold tonight.
