(Undated) — April is Autism Acceptance Month, formerly known as Autism Awareness Month.
According to the Autism Society, the stated goal of this month is to celebrate and honor the experiences and identities of autistic individuals. The non-profit says that’s best done by focusing on understanding, inclusion, and support that moves “beyond awareness towards meaningful acceptance.”
The most recent statistics available from the CDC show roughly one in 31 children are being diagnosed with autism before their eighth birthday in the U.S. A decade ago in 2016, reports from the CDC showed a rate of one in 54 eight-years-olds diagnosed with the disorder.
