Ricky Johnson, 71, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.
Ricky was born to Frank and Mary (Miller) Johnson on October 21, 1954 in Red Oak, Iowa. His family then moved to Lewis in 1960 where Ricky became an avid animal lover. There wasn’t an animal he didn’t like. His younger years growing up in Lewis were an endless episode of the popular movie “Stand By Me”. Adventures were around every corner. Most of his neighbor buddies were his accomplices to endless troublesome adventures, too many to list. He would later move to Atlantic and graduate from Atlantic High School in 1972.
He worked for his parents at the Shamrock Café at I-80 and highway 71 for a number of years until he was hired at Clevite for a short time. He never forgot his love for animals and eventually opened the popular “Fish Store”, which was originally located on highway 6 and then later moved to 4th street in downtown Atlantic. He was well known throughout Cass County and surrounding communities for his unwavering dedication to the many pets and owners he served through the many years. His laid back, humorous personality made him easy to get along with.
Ricky was also a die hard Green Bay Packer fan and was a baseball card enthusiast. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his buddies, his sister Susan and his nieces.
Ricky is survived by his sister, Susan Johnson of Atlantic; nieces, Heather, Robyn, Jackie; uncle, Don Johnson of Tennessee; his long time canine companion, “Packy”, and many friends.
Family and friends plan to gather at the Elbow Room in Atlantic on April 11th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to share memories and celebrate Ricky’s life.
Memorial may be made to the family for later designation.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for Ricky’s family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
