(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors proclaimed April 2026 as National County Government Month.
The proclamation, approved during Tuesday’s meeting, highlights the importance of the nation’s 3,069 counties, which collectively serve more than 330 million Americans. It notes that counties provide essential services that help create healthy, safe and vibrant communities, while fulfilling a wide range of responsibilities that impact nearly every aspect of daily life.

National County Government Month has been observed each April since 1991, when the National Association of Counties began encouraging counties to raise awareness about their responsibilities, programs and services.
With the proclamation, the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors is encouraging county officials, employees, schools and residents to take part in activities and events that celebrate county government and its impact on the community.
