(Des Moines) National Weather Service Meteorologist Chad Hahn says the weather will become active over the next couple of days, with an emphasis on severe weather in southwest Iowa on Friday.
Hahn says this is a typical active pattern we see in Iowa in the spring months, starting in early April, with clashes between cold and warm, moist air that develops in front of these low-pressure systems, setting the stage for thunderstorms.
Hahn expects the storms on Friday to develop in the southwest, and possibly in western Iowa, and increase in intensity as the system moves into the central and southern portions of the state.
Southwest Iowa is listed in the marginal category, and central and eastern Iowa are under the slight risk for severe weather.
