(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, emphasizing the importance of community support in ensuring the safety and well-being of local children.
During its meeting, the board approved a proclamation recognizing that children are a vital part of the county’s future and that their success depends on safe, stable, and nurturing environments created through strong family and community partnerships.
The proclamation highlights the role of positive childhood experiences — including supportive relationships with caring adults, strong family connections, and a sense of belonging — in building resilience and helping children grow into healthy, engaged adults.
Members from the Pottawattamie County Prevent Child Abuse Council, Thriving Families Alliance staff were in attendance for the proclamation signing.
Supervisor Keith Jones read the proclamation.
As part of the observance, the proclamation points to “Pinwheels of Possibility” as a symbol of the limitless potential of children and families, representing how communities can come together to provide support and encouragement. Blue pinwheels will be planted on the Pottawattamie County Courthouse lawn in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
