(Atlantic) The 2026 High School and Middle School State Archery Tournament is underway at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. DNR Tournament officials say 145 schools from across Iowa are competing in the event this weekend, which runs through Sunday.
The Atlantic High School Team and 12 Middle School shooters compete on Sunday. Atlantic Head Coach Clint Roland says this is an impressive event.
Roland says it is exciting for the coaches because they get to see what the kids can do. The Trojans have 24 high school shooters on the roster. There are 12 middle school shooters competing. The Atlantic Middle will also get a team score.
The Trojans are led by team captains Madeline Blake, Shawna Andersen, Eleanor Brummer, and Hank Roberts.
To put things in perspective, there are roughly 1,400 to 1,500 high school teams in the United States that shoot and put up a qualifying score, according to Roland. He said Atlantic is in the top 100 and in the top 25 in the nation in 3D.
The Tournament features 75 targets for bullseye shooting and 48 targets for 3D shooting, allowing for a total of 150 participants to shoot at one time.
