(Des Moines) Iowa House District #18 Representative Tom Moore announced this week that on Tuesday, Copic and the Iowa Medical Society recognized Dr. Elaine Berry as the 2025 Copic Humanitarian Award recipient.
Dr. Berry has served as Cass County Medical Examiner, Medical Director of Emergency Services, and Hospice Medical Director. In these roles, she has been instrumental in disaster preparedness, EMS advocacy, and mentoring future medical professionals.
This Award is presented annually to honor a physician for volunteer medical services and contributions to their community. The Award aims to recognize those individuals who unassumingly volunteer outside the spectrum of their day-to-day lives.
The recipient of the Award designates a $10,000 donation from Copic to a healthcare-related nonprofit, and as this year’s award winner, Dr. Berry chose to direct her donation to support Cass Health to support the Nurse Apprenticeship program. The program is an innovative initiative to train nurses and address the healthcare workforce shortage.
