(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a proclamation recognizing this week (March 23–27, 2026), as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Pottawattamie County.
The proclamation highlights the county’s vulnerability to severe weather, including tornadoes, lightning, flooding, hail, and damaging winds, all of which can pose risks to lives, property, and infrastructure. Officials emphasized that preparedness, awareness, and quick action are key to minimizing impacts and keeping residents safe.

The statewide tornado drill is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. today (March 25).
Severe Weather Awareness Week is supported by Emergency Management Agencies in partnership with the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the National Weather Service. Throughout the week, these agencies are promoting safety education on topics such as lightning, tornadoes, flooding, hail, and high winds.
