(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW Girls Track and Field will be one to watch this season. The Lady Vikes have good numbers — 16 are out for the team says Head Coach Traye Pelzer and Junior Bella Lamp seems to be healthy. Last year, Lamp was having a huge season but just before the WIC meet, she went down with a season ending injury. At the time, she was one of the top runners in the 400 and the 400 hurdles. Now she is back and Pelzer says the team is better for it
AHSTW has just two seniors on the team — Ava and Makenna Paulsen and they both run in the middle distance which makes the 400s and 800s the strength of the team. Both the 4×400 and the 4×800 made it to state last year without Lamp — the 4×400 finished 14th and the 4×800 finished 13th. Sophomores Kennedy Wyman and Emery Brockhoff will join the Paulsens and Lamp in the relays says Pelzer
Also for the Lady Vikes, Brooke Lee and Natalie Stoakes will lead the sprints. Addison Carroll does shot put and discus and last year added the mile and might go to the two mile says Pelzer. Freshman Katy Scheffler will also be in the throws with Carroll. Lee will also be in the long jump.
Overall Pelzer says the team is showing a lot of potential
AHSTW will open their outdoor season at the Early Bird Outdoor Meet at Audubon on Monday, March 30.
