(Guthrie Center) AC/GC Schools Superintendent Josh Rasmussen announced on Friday the appointment of Mr. Rhys Pate as the new 9–12 Principal at AC/GC High School.
Mr. Pate currently teaches math at Valley Southwoods in the West Des Moines Community School District and brings 18 years of classroom experience to his new role. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education along with Master’s and Specialist degrees in Education from Drake University. He looks forward to applying his experience in education and leadership to support students and staff at AC/GC High School.
Mr. Pate and his family include his wife, Sarah, and their children: Makencie (24), Kayla (22), Jase (19), and Johannah (13). Sarah previously worked for 21 years as a Special Education associate at Valley and is currently taking time off to focus on family. Makencie works in marketing for 515 Decorative Concrete Supply, where she uses her digital expertise. Kayla has worked in childcare since age 16 and is now a nanny for a family with four children. Jase graduated last year and is employed at Crunch Fitness, where he is pursuing certification as a personal trainer after developing a passion for fitness through high school wrestling. Johannah, also known as Jojo, is a 7th-grade student who is active in volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, and chorus.
In his free time, Mr. Pate enjoys working out, golfing, collecting baseball cards, and spending time with his family. He is especially proud of watching his children grow and follow their interests.
Mr. Pate replaces Principal Cody Matthewson, who resigned earlier this year.
