(Durham, NC) — The season for Nebraska women’s basketball came to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as Baylor rallied to a 67-62 win on Friday afternoon.
The Bears led 35-33 with 7:07 to go in the third quarter but the Huskers used 6 straight points to take the lead — they would hold it until Baylor went on an 8-0 run to take a 56-53 advantage with two and a half minutes to go. The teams would trade points for the next minute and Baylor had a 62-59 lead. Nebraska had the ball but was called for an offensive foul on an illegal screen; Baylor promptly turned it over when they stepped on the in bounds line. The Huskers threw a bad pass in the lane for another TO and that proved costly. Taliah Scott drove the lane for the Bears and made a lay-up to make it 64-59 with 21.9 seconds left.
During that 8-0 run, Baylor challenged a key foul on the Huskers Jessica Petrie that was later ruled a flagrant one. That was the fourth foul on Petrie who would foul out moments later. Baylor got three points on that possession.
Britt Prince led Nebraska (19-13) with 27 points on 8-19 shooting and 3-7 from three point land. Logan Nissley had 11 points and Petrie added 10.
It was balanced scoring for Baylor — Scott led with 15, Darianna Littlepage-Buggs had 13, Jana Van Gytenbeek 12, and Bella Fontleroy added 10.
