(Montgomery Co.) Montgomery County Sheriff Jon Spunaugle spoked to the Board of Supervisors this morning about some employee changes.
Sheriff Spunaugle said they have a plan for the jail and should be able to move into it seamlessly. He said he has made an offer to replace a deputy and would like to bring that deputy on early, sometime between April 1 and April 10.
The second part involves a change to a supervisory role in Dispatch. Sheriff Spunaugle said he has identified a replacement in Dispatch who is the best fit for the position; however, there is a relative already working in the Dispatch Center. He referenced Iowa Code, as well as the employee handbook, which states that elected officials cannot hire family members or place them in those roles.
The Supervisors approved the supervisory role changes with the stipulation that hiring, firing, and discipline falls directly on the Sheriff.
