AAA To Offer Free Rides For Impaired Drivers Around St. Patrick’s Day Holiday
(Iowa) — Triple A is offering free rides to Iowa drivers who may have celebrated St. Patrick’s Day a little too much to get behind the wheel. The Tow to Go service is available for both Triple A members and non-members from 6 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The rides are free and anonymous, and cannot be scheduled in advance.
Iowa Attorney General Warns Of False Fundraising Website Disguised As Foundation For Fallen Sergeant
(Iowa) — The Iowa Attorney General’s Office is warning against a scam fundraising scheme for Sergeant Declan Coady, an army reservist from West Des Moines who was killed this month in Kuwait. The A-G’s office says DeclanCoadyFoundation.com is a fake website. She urges people to ensure they are donating to legitimate fundraisers, such as the memorial fund set up by Drake University and his family’s official Go Fund Me.
No Charges In West Liberty Police Shooting
(West Liberty, IA) — No charges will be filed in an officer-involved shooting in January in West Liberty. Authorities say officers responded January 11th to the 500 block of North Elm Street on a report of a domestic disturbance. While armed with a knife, Jay Bateman advanced toward the officers, who used a taser, which was ineffective. An officer then shot Bateman, who was arrested on multiple charges. Following an investigation by Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Muscatine County Attorney’s Office, the officer who shot Bateman was cleared.
Illinois Dept. Of Health Confirms Measles Detection In Eastern Iowa
(Iowa) — Measles exposure alert at an eastern Iowa hotel. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says the Illinois Department of Public Health notified them of a confirmed Illinois measles patient who stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites, at 21-hundred Swan Lake Boulevard in Independence, between the afternoon of March 4th and the morning of March 5th.
Top Ten Nominees For 2026 Iowa’s Best Burger Announced
(Iowa) — In the search for Iowa’s best burger, a top ten list is being released. More than 54-hundred people cast their votes for the top ten out of 350 restaurants. Candidates in Eastern Iowa include Salsa Guy Cafe in Cedar Rapids, B52 Bar and Grill in Bennett, and Northside Diner in Washington. The Iowa Beef Industry Council says a panel of secret judges will visit each restaurant to taste test each burger. The winner of Iowa’s Best Burger contest will be announced May first.
