Sharon Kay Kearney, the daughter of Allen Eugene and Thelma Loree (Carlisle) Hamilton, was born February 17, 1950, in Council Bluffs, IA. Sharon passed away on March 12, 2026, at her home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 76 years and 23 days.
A Celebration of Life Service for 76-year-old Sharon Kay Kearney of Oakland, will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Oakland Christian Church, from 5:00-to-7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
Sharon attended school in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1968. During her high school years, she worked at Dairy Queen. She pursued her passion for nursing at Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse. Her career included positions at Mercy Hospital, Oakland Manor Nursing Home, and Jennie Edmundson Hospital, from which she retired in 2012.
On March 21, 1969, Sharon married Arnold Kearney at the Oakland Christian Church. Together, they lived in various places including Council Bluffs, Liberal, KS, and Logan, IA, before settling back in Oakland in 1973.
Sharon was a devoted member of the Oakland Christian Church, serving in numerous roles such as Elder, CWF, board member, choir member, and on many committees. She was also active in the Center Clover Club 4-H, served as High School Board Chair, was involved with the ANCC Medical Surgery as an RN, Friday Club, and Arrowhead Horse Club. Sharon enjoyed sewing, camping, crafts, collecting music boxes, boating, traveling, riding ATVs, and most especially, spending time with her grandchildren.
Sharon is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold.
She is survived by her children: Loree Phelps of Oakland, IA, Julie Bishop and husband Doug of Walnut, IA, and Thomas Kearney and wife Beth of Loveland, CO; her grandchildren: Joshua Kennon and wife Stephanie, Skyler Meyer and wife Jennifer, Cortney Meyer, and Mason Kearney; great-grandchildren: Tucker and a baby girl Meyer arriving in June; her mother, Loree Hamilton of Oakland, IA who is 100 years old (Sharon was very proud of this); and her siblings: Sandra Hamilton of Vinton, IA, Steve Hamilton and wife Diane of Oakland, IA, and Scott Hamilton and wife Kathy of Chatham, MA. Sharon is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
