(Rural Clarinda) Multiple southwest Iowa fire departments responded to a field fire Thursday afternoon in rural Page County.
According to Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce, at 3:56 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 1300 block of Lumber Avenue near Clarinda for a reported field fire. When firefighters arrived, they found two separate brush piles burning, with flames extending into a nearby grass area and a harvested corn field.
Fire crews were able to make a quick knockdown, bringing the fire under control in a short amount of time.
Two local farmers assisted firefighters, using tractors and disks to help diminish the spread of the fire.
Agencies assisting or responding included Essex Fire Department, Clarinda Fire Department, Red Oak Fire Department, Stanton Fire Department, Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, Page Communications, and MCSO Communications.
