NWS: Tuesday Storms Bring Iowa’s First Confirmed Tornadoes Of 2026
(Iowa) — Iowa’s first confirmed tornadoes of the year touched down in the southeastern corner of the state on Tuesday. The National Weather Service says two EF-1 tornadoes were detected in Lee County along Highway 2. The first touched down in southwest Donnellson just after 9 p.m., and the second formed near Wilson Lake Park about 30 minutes later. Tuesday’s storms also produced up to two-point-seven-five-inch hail in parts of Eastern Iowa.
Welcome Home Ceremonies Today For IA Soldiers Returning From Deployment In The Middle East
(Iowa) — Almost 600 Iowa soldiers are coming home from the Middle East today. Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, were deployed to Iraq and Syria in an effort to stop ISIS. Welcome home ceremonies will take place this afternoon at the Des Moines International Airport, the Cedar Rapids Armory, and the Sioux City Airport. Another 250 soldiers came home in February.
Spring Break Parking At DSM Sold Out In February
(Des Moines, IA) — If you’re heading to the Des Moines International Airport for spring break and haven’t booked a parking spot, you might want to allow some extra time. Reserved parking in the main garage sold out in February. Sarah Hoodjer [[ WHOOD-jurr ]] with the airport says economy lots could still have spots, and shuttles can take you to the airport from there. The Des Moines Airport hasn’t seen any TSA delays due to the government shutdown. Hoodjer recommends arriving 90 minutes before your flight.
ICE Raised Muscatine County Jail Detention Funds By 75%
(Muscatine, IA) — Immigration enforcement has become a windfall for one Iowa county. Newly released records show the Department of Homeland Security raised the amount of money available to the Muscatine County Jail for holding federal prisoners to well over 800-thousand dollars–an increase of over 75-percent. The county’s longstanding contract to house federal prisoners was updated in March of last year and expires this month. A copy of the agreement was obtained through an Open Records Law request by the Iowa Capital Dispatch.
