(Chicago, IL) — Iowa used a strong run in the second half to blow open a close game beating Maryland 75-64 and advances to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament.
Maryland built a 24-16 lead but Iowa closed the first half on a 9-2 run to only trail by one at the break — 26-25. Andre Mills hit a three for the Terps to start the 2nd half but Cam Manyawu followed with a dunk. The teams traded baskets and Cooper Koch made a triple to give the Hawkeyes a 36-34 lead. It was part of an incredible 21-0 run for Iowa — going from down four to up 17 51-42 with 11:20 to go in the game. The closest Maryland got was 9 but that is it.
Koch led Iowa (21-11) with 19 points including 5 of 8 from three point land; Bennett Stirtz had 17 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds; Tavion Banks put in 12 and Manyawu added 10.
Maryland (12-21) was led by Darius Adams with 14 points.
Next up for Iowa is #8 seed Ohio St. (20-8) — the Hawkeyes won the only regular season meeting between the two teams 74-57 at Carver Hawkeye Arena on February 25. The game will tip off at 111 am and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
