(Ames) A dominant second half powered Iowa State to an 85-65 win over Arizona State on senior day at Hilton Coliseum.
Tamin Lipsey, Joshua Jefferson, and Milan Momcilovic each scored 16 points to lead the Cyclones. Massamba Diop led Arizona State with 12 points.
Arizona State closed the first half on a 10-0 run to erase a nine-point deficit and take a 41-37 lead into halftime.
Iowa State responded quickly after the break, outscoring the Sun Devils 30-7, leading up to the under-8 media timeout. During that stretch, the Cyclones scored 24 straight points over more than seven minutes. Senior Tamin Lipsey talks about the turnaround in the second half.
The 24-point run included five 3-pointers, highlighted by back-to-back baskets from Momcilovic and Jefferson that put Iowa State back in front and ignited the surge. Lipsey capped the run with a 3-pointer to give the Cyclones a 65-45 lead with 8:38 remaining.
Arizona State stopped the 24-point stretch with a series of free throws.
Iowa State forced 21 Arizona State turnovers, the most by a Big 12 opponent this season. It marked the fourth time this season the Cyclones have forced 20 or more turnovers.
Alcorn State committed a season-high 27 turnovers against Iowa State on December 3, while Mississippi State had 26 on December 10, the most by a high-major opponent.
The Cyclones converted the Sun Devils’ turnovers into 29 points.
Before the game, Iowa State honored seniors Tamin Lipsey, Joshua Jefferson, Nate Heise, Dominykas Pleta, and Eric Mulder.
Tamin Lipsey, who played all four years at ISU, says the day was filled with emotion.

The Cyclones improve to 25-6, and 12-6 in Big Twelve play.
