(Clarke County) Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Clarke County early Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened on Interstate 35 near the 33-mile marker, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Authorities say 20-year-old Ryleigh Ann Rawls of Iowa City was driving a 2014 Chevy Cruz southbound on I-35 in the left lane. At the same time, a 2023 Kenworth T680 semi driven by 40-year-old James Keith Lawrence of Benson, Arizona, was traveling southbound in the right lane.
According to the report, Rawls attempted to merge into the right lane to take the exit ramp. The Chevy Cruz came into contact with the semi and became pinned between the truck and the guardrail. Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway.
Rawls was transported by Clarke EMS to Clarke County Hospital. Patricia Louise Swartzendruber, 71, of Iowa City, was taken by Clarke County EMS to MercyOne Hospital.
