(Red Oak) At Tuesday’s County Supervisors meeting, Montgomery County Engineer Karen Albert announced that FEMA had awarded the county a $250,000 check for the J Avenue box culvert project. The culvert sustained significant damage in the 2024 tornado, which totaled more than $1.2 million in damage throughout the county.
Albert says the project will go out for bids sometime during the next fiscal year. Upon completion of the project, FEMA will send a final check to cover the expenses.
Albert acknowledged that this is a departure from past practices, as the county has never received funding for a project that is not yet completed.
Karen Albert says the construction phase of the project will not happen this calendar year. She says they are moving forward, but the project will not start until 2027.
