(Harlan) Harlan City Administrator Gervas Mgonja updated the council on Tuesday evening, reporting that the hiring process for the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Director position is still underway, with an interview scheduled for today (March 4) with a potential candidate. Former Executive Director Todd Valline resigned on January 21.
The salary for the position ranges from $70,000 to $85,000, depending on experience.
During the meeting, the City Council held a public hearing on the proposed Acoustic Enhancement Project at Harlan’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Afterward, the council approved the project’s plans, specifications, contract form, and estimated costs.
Additionally, the council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Harlan and AFSCME Council 61, Local 1014, requesting a $2.00 pay increase for Streets and Parks employees, contingent upon Union approval. Councilperson Jennifer Kelly motioned for approval, with a stipulation.
Finally, the council reviewed and approved the offering of the Hepatitis B vaccine to eligible city employees.
