(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Supervisors continued budget discussions at today’s (Tuesday’s) meeting with one supervisor proposing a major increase in county salaries.
The supervisors are looking at what percentage of a raise county employees would receive. They looked at what area schools and other counties were doing and the numbers generally fell around a three percent raise. The county is going through a three percent revenue growth so Supervisor Maggie Armstrong proposed a healthy salary increase
Armstrong also proposed reducing the general supplemental levy rate to 24 percent which would stabilize the ending fund balances. She also would like to reduce the rural basic rate from $3.70 to $3.50. In addition, Armstrong wants the county departments to work hard at cutting their budgets
Armstrong also wants the county departments to have performance reviews to justify a possible raise. Nobody voiced any opposition to Armstrong’s plan and they plan on double checking the figures to see the feasibility of raising salaries by five percent.
