(Iowa City, IA) — The 13th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team moved into 2nd place in the Big Ten standings with a 62-44 win over #6 Michigan on Sunday.
It was tied 12-12 after the first quarter and after the Wolverines scored the first points of the second period, Iowa went on a 7–0 run. Michigan answered with four straight points to make the Iowa lead 19-18 but the Hawkeyes went on an 8-0 run and they led 27-20 at the half.
Iowa pushed their advantage to 11 points early in the 3rd quarter but the Wolverines hit back to back triples from Te’Yala Delfose and Mila Holloway. Iowa was leading by 7 when Syla Swords for Michigan nailed another three but Kylie Feuerbach hit one of her own for the Hawkeyes at the 3rd quarter buzzer to make it 42-35.
Michigan got it to 46-40 early in the 4th quarter but the Hawkeyes made a 14-2 run to push their lead to 18 — outscoring the Wolverines 20-9 in the final period and win going away.
Iowa (22-5, 13-3) was led by Ava Heiden with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Hannah Stuelke also had a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds plus 7 assists.
Michigan (22-5, 13-3) had 13 points from Olivia Olson and 11 from Holloway.
UCLA remains perfect in Big Ten play at 16-0 while the Hawkeyes and Wolverines are tied at 13-3 with Iowa currently owning the tiebreaker. Minnesota is 12-4 and Ohio St. 5th at 11-4. Iowa has two games left in the regular season — Thursday hosting Illinois and Sunday at Wisconsin.
