(Elk Horn) It is round three for the CAM-Exira/EHK girls’ basketball teams tonight at Elk Horn. The winner is one step closer to the Iowa Girls’ High School State Basketball Tournament. The Spartans won the first two matchups during the Rolling Valley Conference season, 57-42, and 70-41.
Exira/EHK Head Coach Tom Petersen points to experience and balanced scoring as the keys to the team’s success this season.
Jaelyn Petersen, Harlow Miller, and Kadence Sporrer are three seniors leading this squad. Petersen averages 16.05 ppg, Sporrer 7.67, and Miller 7.62. Junior Taryn Petersen leads offensively, averaging 20.19 ppg, including 45 three-point baskets, 73 percent from the free throw line, and six assists per contest. Looking at the matchup, Coach Petersen says CAM is playing good basketball, and points to a recent game in which the team connected on its first six three-point shots.
Ada Hansen leads the Cougars, averaging 18.46 ppg, Ruthe Rich, 8.26, and Courtney Follman, 7.96 ppg. CAM enters the regional semi-final after beating Stanton 53-20 and Bedford in the quarterfinals 55-40. CAM Head Coach Joe Woolum says the team has worked hard all year.
