(Lincoln, NE) — In a President’s Day matinee, Ava Heiden was the chief scorer for #13 Iowa in an 80-67 win over Nebraska in a Big Ten women’s basketball contest.
Heiden had a career high 27 points and added 11 rebounds for a double double and Tyler Strenlow added a career high 17 points for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa built a 45-27 lead at the half thanks to Heiden scoring 18 points in the first half, going 8 of 9 from the field. The Cornhuskers went on a 10-1 run in the third quarter to climb back in the game and cut the lead to 11. However, Iowa did not let Nebraska any closer. Iowa would lead by as many as 27 points with about 8 minutes to go in the game.
Iowa (20-5, 11-3) outrebounded Nebraska 31-23 and won despite having 20 turnovers. Chazadi Wright had 14 points for the Hawkeyes while Journey Houston added 10 off the bench.
Nebraska (16-10, 5-10) was led by Britt Prince with 13 points, Eliza Maupin had 11 and Amiah Hargrove added 10.
