(Creston) Firefighters with the Creston Fire Department responded to a hay bale fire at the Creston Livestock Market early Saturday morning.
At 12:25 a.m., crews were dispatched to a report of hay bales on fire at the livestock market. Upon arrival, firefighters found 11 round bales burning against the east side of the brick building near the train tracks.
A second page was issued at 12:33 a.m., requesting additional firefighters for a working fire. An employee used a skid loader to move the bales away from the structure and separate them, helping crews gain better access to extinguish the flames.
The department completed its assignment at 2:29 a.m. Firefighters returned later Saturday morning to put out bales that continued to smolder. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
