(Warren County) A pursuit involving a Warren County Sheriff’s Office vehicle ended in a crash, injuring two people.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 1:45 a.m. Saturday on Southwest 98th Avenue, East of Utah Street. Authorities say 31-year-old Arik D. Smith of New Virginia and 20-year-old Wyatt T. Smith of Indianola were airlifted to Mercy Des Moines Hospital.
According to the report, Smith was driving a 2015 Polaris Razor UTV eastbound on Southwest 98th Avenue when he attempted to elude law enforcement.
Authorities say the vehicle lost control and entered the north ditch, then continued eastbound until it reached a field drive. The UTV then vaulted off the drive, became airborne, and landed on the east side of the drive at the edge of the roadway before beginning to roll.
The Iowa State Patrol says both occupants of the UTV were wearing seatbelts.
