(Ames, IA) — Kansas gave Iowa St. their first loss of the season in Lawrence but Hilton belonged to the Cyclones in the rematch, winning 74-56 in a runaway in a Big 12 men’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 6-4, #5 Iowa St. went on a 7-0 run to take the lead. Darryn Peterson hit a three for #9 Kansas but Jamarion Batemon answered with a triple of his own for ISU. The Jayhawks went on a 5-0 mini-run to lead 15-14 — after a Milan Momcilovic basket, Melvin Council Jr. hit a three and Flory Bidunga dunked one to make it 20-16 KU.
Iowa St retook the lead on a 7-0 run and after a Bidunga lay-up, Batemon hit another triple which started a 13-0 run for the Cyclones to take control. Elmarko Jackson hit a three for the Jayhawks at the end of the half — Iowa St. led 37-27 at the break.
The Cyclones buried three straight triples early in the 2nd half — two from Tamin Lipsey before Peterson hit a triple for Kansas to make it 49-32 with 16:48 remaining. However, Momcilovic hit another triple to answer and Batemon hit another three and Killyan Toure got to the hoop for a lay-up and ISU led by 23. The closest Kansas got was 12 points — 68-56 with 4:22 left but did not score the rest of the game missing their final six shots.
Iowa St. (22-3, 9-3) was led by Momcilovic with 18 points including 4-9 on his three pointers. Batemon, Lipsey, Joshua Jefferson and Blake Buchanan each added 11 points.
Kansas (19-6, 9-3) got 15 points from Council, Bidunga had 11 and Peterson added 10.
