(Red Oak) The Essex, Red Oak, and Stanton Fire Departments responded late Thursday afternoon to a field fire on 110th Street and K Avenue in rural Page County.
Upon arrival, crews found approximately 15 acres of a harvested cornfield had burned as a result of an unattended brush pile fire. The fire spread to 105th Street but did not cross the roadway.
A passing farmer noticed the flames and began creating a makeshift firebreak to slow the fire’s advance until emergency responders arrived.
No injuries were reported.
