(Pottawattamie Co) The Iowa Veterans Foundation is in the process of fundraising for brackets to place veterans banners on Veterans Memorial Highway in Pottawattamie County.
Ellen Way, with Iowa Veterans Foundation, told the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that the banners would be placed between S. 24th Street and Metro Drive in Council Bluffs.
The banners will include a photo of the veteran, along with their name, rank, branch of service, and dates of service. Ellen Way said they are planning for 100 banners, with four displayed on each pole. It was also noted that, in the future, they hope to expand the program to include members of the Police Department and Fire Department to honor their service.
The Iowa Veterans Foundation is requesting $5,000 in funding to help purchase the banner. Action on the funding request was not included on Tuesday’s agenda, so the board will place it on a future agenda for consideration.
Once the Iowa Veterans Foundation reaches its fundraising goal, applications will be made available. Veterans who were honorably or medically discharged are eligible. Veterans and their families are encouraged to complete the applications when they become available.
