(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC will have a new Activities Director and Football Head Coach next fall. AD Taylor Morris announced his resignation at the previous school board meeting in January and on Wednesday night, Cody Matthewson announced he will step down as the Football Head Coach.
Morris leaves AC/GC to become the Dean of Students and Football Head Coach at the Chargers rival Panorama. According to a statement from Panorama on Facebook from Activities Director Bruce Dahlhauser, “Taylor is a great addition to Panorama as our Head Football Coach and District Dean of Students. He’s an excellent relationship builder who knows how to create a positive, high-standard culture. His experience in building successful athletic programs, clear communication, and strong work ethic will benefit our students right away, and he’s the kind of leader who values both school and community.”
Matthewson has coached the Chargers for the last 8 seasons and has gone 59-22 for an incredible winning percentage of .728. AC/GC has been to the playoffs 7 times in those 8 seasons, advancing to the quarterfinals 4 times, including 3 in a row. The Chargers did not get the chance to play in the Dome during Matthewson’s tenure which is the only thing left undone. AC/GC went 10-1 the last three years.
Matthewson posted the following statement on Facebook on Wednesday night:
