Abigail Escatel was forcibly removed from the meeting room after slamming a table in the middle of the subcommittee meeting. It happened next to chair Steven Holt, while other members, Skyler Wheeler and Ross Wilburn, echoed the attempted assault claims. The bill under consideration would ban public universities from including diversity, equity, inclusion, and critical race theory-related courses in their curriculum requirements. Escatel was accusing lawmakers of failing to recognize a “very complex racial history” of the formation of the U.S.
Black Hawk County Authorities Searching For Escapee
(Black Hawk County, IA) — Authorities are searching for a man wanted for multiple charges, including escape from custody. Tanner Haugh is described as a six-foot-one, 200-pound man with brown hair and green eyes. He has multiple facial tattoos and a neck tattoo that says “blessed.” He’s wanted for violating probation, violating parole, and escaping from custody. Anyone with information on Haugh’s whereabouts is asked to contact Black Hawk County Dispatch.
Two Men Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing In Sioux City
(Sioux City, IA) — Two 18-year-olds are in custody for their involvement in a suspected homicide. Imari Grant and Kaiden Montes were both wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing on Monday morning in downtown Sioux City. They were taken into custody during a traffic stop on Interstate 29 near Hamilton Boulevard. The two are suspected in the stabbing of 32-year-old Maurice Grant, who was found dead in an apartment near the intersection of Pierce and 10th streets. Both of the suspects have been booked into the Woodbury County Jail.
Dakota City Tyson Plant To Take In Workers From Lexington
(Dakota City, IA) — About 30 families from a Lexington Tyson plant are transferring to the plant in Dakota City. Tyson announced it would shutter the Lexington plant in south-central Nebraska in January. More than 32 hundred people lost their jobs as a result of the decision. The United Food and Commercial Workers Union says it believes the number of people transferring will be much higher. The new employees mean the Dakota City plant will likely be asked to process more cattle going forward.
Man Accused Of Choking And Tying Up Girlfriend
(South Sioux City, IA) — A South Sioux City man is being accused of choking and tying his girlfriend. Edward Lovejoy is also being accused of making threats to rape the woman and dump her in a river. Police received a report from the woman on Thursday, saying she had been held hostage at an apartment on the 800 block of East Seventh Street. The woman eventually escaped to a neighbor’s house, where she contacted authorities. Lovejoy was booked on felony terroristic threats, false imprisonment, assault by strangulation, and domestic abuse assault.
