(Atlantic) Atlantic hosts Denison-Schleswig in a girls’/boys’ doubleheader basketball tonight. This is the first meeting of the season for the boys. The girls topped the Monarchs on November 25, 58-20.
Atlantic Head Girl’s Coach Dan Vargason says it has been almost an entire season since they last played Denison-Schleswig. He expects the game to be a lot different this second time around.
The Trojans enter the contest with a 10-8 record and 5-2 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. Katrina Williams, Atlantic’s 6-foot post player, leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.00 per game, eight rebounds, and 50 steals.
Atlantic Head Boys’ Basketball Coach Dalton Franken says they have placed a heavy emphasis on defensive rebounding to offset the Monarchs’ strength. Atlantic enters the game with a 4-13 record. The Monarchs are 3-15.
Gavin McLaren leads the Trojans, averaging 13.35 points per game, Kale Jensen is averaging 12.24, and seven rebounds, and Hudson McLaren and Benny McLaren average just over six ppg.
The Monarchs are led by Blaine Grady. The senior averages 13.72 ppg and 6.6 rebounds per contest. Wilson Riphin averages 6.00 ppg.
