Search Is On For Suspect Who Fired At Officer
(West Des Moines, IA) — West Des Moines Police are searching for an armed suspect who shot at an officer. Police say it happened Monday night on the 11-hundred block of Vine Street. Officers were fired at by the suspect as soon as they arrived. The suspect fled the scene on foot and has not been seen since. Uniformed police have been assigned to nearby schools, including Hillside Elementary, Stilwell Junior High, Walnut Creek Alternative and Sacred Heart Elementary.
Audit Identifies $250k In Financial Irregularities In Tama County
(Tama, IA) — State Auditor Rob Sand says more than 250-thousand dollars spent by Tama County is being questioned. A special investigation was conducted after concerns were raised about money handled by former Human Resources Manager Tamara Wise. The investigation covered transactions from January 1st, 2020 through February 28th, 2025. Sand’s team released a report Tuesday saying more than 81-thousand dollars worth of payments tied to the American Rescue Plan Act and more than 153-thousand dollars in unsupported disbursements from the county health insurance fund couldn’t be verified. The report was handed to state and county attorney’s as well as the county sheriff’s office.
Amazon Provides Ring Cameras To Domestic Violence Survivors
(Des Moines, IA) — Amazon is donating one-thousand Ring cameras to the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The partnership was announced by Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird on Tuesday. Crisis Intervention Services says Ring cameras are among the most requested items by domestic violence survivors. Those interested in getting a camera can reach out to local victim nonprofit organizations. The Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence says 25 state agencies helped over 50-thousand domestic violence victims in Iowa last year.
Fareway Stores Donates 69-Thousand Pounds Of Ham
(Johnston, IA) — Fareway Stores is donating more than 69-thousand pounds of ham to Iowa food banks. The grocery chain made the announcement on Tuesday. It totals about five-thousand-504 individual hams. The protein options will be distributed to three different food banks. The Food Bank of Iowa is receiving 60-percent of the hams, Siouxland Food Bank is receiving 20-percent of the hams and River Bend Food Bank is receiving the remaining 20-percent.
Unofficial Straw Polls Show Unease With Republican Governor Favorite Feenstra
(Des Moines, IA) — Randy Feenstra could be facing a bigger challenge than expected in the Republican primary. Unofficial straw polls from Monday’s state-wide caucuses are showing other candidates have more support than the sitting U.S. Representative. Feenstra, the presumed favorite to earn the Republican nomination for Governor, came in fourth in the unofficial straw poll in Scott County and third in the unofficial poll in Linn County, according to the Quad City Times. Former State Agency Director Adam Steen won both of the polls. Feenstra has drawn criticism for skipping forums and debates that were attended by his opponents, but is far out-pacing the rest of the field in financing.
