Republicans Hold Cash Advantage Heading Into 2026 Election
(Des Moines, IA) — Year-end campaign finance reports are showing Republicans have a cash advantage heading into the midterms. The new reports cover fundraising from October through the end of December. Republican candidates hold a cash reserve edge over Democrats in all four of Iowa’s federal House districts. This comes as Republican incumbents Ashley Hinson and Randy Feenstra have both announced they will be campaigning for new positions in November. Hinson is running for Senate and Feenstra is hoping to replace outgoing Governor Kim Reynolds.
Northern Landing Development Agreement Approved By Sioux Falls Council
(Sioux Falls, IA) — The Northern Landing development is moving forward after approval by the Sioux City Council on Monday. The council passed a minimum assessment agreement with WB Land and Development for the mixed-use project near Business Highway 75 and Outer Drive. Mayor Pro Tem Julie Schoenherr believes there will be more discussion for the large project that will take between ten-to-fifteen years to complete. A motion to defer the vote because of concerns raised about the bidding process was rejected. The assessed value of the development is projected to be about seven-point-five million upon completion.
Iowa City State Historical Society faces 2nd lawsuit over closure
(Iowa City, IA) — A private nonprofit is suing the State Historical Society and Department of Administrative Services. The lawsuit stems from the decision to close the State Historical Society building in Iowa City. Plaintiffs say the Department of Administrative Services acted “irrationally, illogically and capriciously” in deciding to close the Iowa City location, which has been housed in the Centennial Building for nearly 50 years. A group of 17 donors, historians and community members sued the department in September but a judge ruled the surprise closure could go forward. Plaintiffs worry that collections and records will be at risk if the building in Iowa City is closed.
Pregnant Woman Intentionally Hit By Car In Waterloo
(Waterloo, IA) — A pregnant woman is recovering after being hit intentionally by a car on Sunday. A woman was found with a broken back and bleeding behind the placenta on the 14-hundred block of Jefferson Street. Police say the woman was hit and partially dragged by another woman because of an ongoing feud between the two. Diaz Lashai Wilson of Waterloo has been charged with several crimes, including serious injury by vehicle and child endangerment. She reportedly had her nine-month-old daughter in the vehicle when she crashed into the pregnant woman.
Bettendorf Police Renew Search For Man Who Went Missing In 2017
(Bettendorf, IA) — Bettendorf Police is asking the public for help in finding a person who went missing in 2017. Authorities say David McAllister was 22 years old when he disappeared on May 11th, 2017. His family and friends started a nonprofit organization called Doing It For David, which asks the community for leads while also raising awareness about all missing men. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact Bettendorf Police.
