(Red Oak) One person suffered injuries in a two-vehicle accident in Red Oak on Sunday.
The Red Oak Police Department says the accident happened at Highway 34 and 8th Street. On scene, deputies observed a 2013 Dodge Journey with damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle. The passengers were out of the vehicle. A 2019 Chevy Equinox was on its top in the north ditch with damage to the passenger side. The driver of the Equinox was out of the vehicle, lying in the ditch. Officers aided the man on the ground until EMS arrived. The driver of the Equinox, 61-year-old Orlando Aday Aday of Osceola, told officers that he fell asleep and did not remember anything until his vehicle was in the ditch upside down. He was transported by Red Oak Rescue to the helo pad where Lifenet transported him to a hospital in Omaha.
Officers spoke to several witnesses and the driver of the Journey, 28-year-old Whitney Wright of Malvern. It was determined that the Equinox was eastbound on Highway 34 and crossed the center line like it was going to turn north on 8th Street. The Equinox then struck the Journey on the passenger side. The Equinox then went airborne, turned in the air and landed on its top in the north ditch. Aday Aday managed to craws out of the back drivers side door and waited for EMS in the ditch. Whitney Wright exited her vehicle, and with the help of witnesses, opened the rear passenger door to remove her child from the car seat.
Wright had minor injuries from the seat belt and airbags. The child was unharmed. Both went to be checked out on their own and were not transported.
Aday Aday will be cited for driving left of center.
