(Sergeant Bluff) Glenwood is heading to the State Dual Tournament on Saturday. The Rams defeated Atlantic 44-31 in the Regional semi-finals, avenging an earlier 36-35 loss to the Trojans in a regular-season dual on January 22. Glenwood followed the semi-final victory with a 40-29 win over Sergeant Bluff-Luton to earn a berth in the state duals on Saturday.
Glenwood got off to a quick start against the Trojans in the semi-finals. Ace Cochrane (106) won by tech fall, Quinn Lane (113) followed with a fall to give the Rams an 11-0 advantage. Keaton Schroeder put the Trojans on the board with a quick pin at (120); however, Glenwood responded with a TF by Brody Black at (126) and a pin by Joe Leick at (132) to put the Rams up 22-6 early. The Trojans narrowed the gap to 22-16 compliments of a pin by Braxton Hass (136), and a major decision by Landon Hagen at (144).
Tate Buthe’s major decision at (150) gave the Rams a 26-16 advantage; however, the Trojans rallied again to take the lead 28-26 on back-to-back pins by Jayden Harter (157) and Dreven Smith at (165).
The Rams secured the victory, winning three of the four final matches by pins from Nile Lundvall (175), Mason Koehler (215), and Drake Buthe (285). Donovan Hedrington of Atlantic picked up the win at (190) by decision.
Glenwood maintained its momentum in the finals, winning three of four matches out of the gate. Ace Cochrane (106) won by a pin, Brady Black (120) picked up a major decision, and Joe Leick (126) won in overtime for a 13-3 lead. The Warriors surged ahead, winning five out of the next six matches and a 29-19 advantage. However, the upper weights, the strength of the Rams’ lineup, closed out the match with three falls, and a big overtime win by Jacob Aust at (190) to secure the win, and a berth in the State Dual Tournament at Xstream Arena in Coralville on Saturday.
