(Los Angeles, CA) — Iowa lost its first Big Ten women’s basketball game as USC knocked off the #8 ranked Hawkeyes 81-69 on Thursday night.
The Trojans led by 18 in the first half but Taylor Stremlow hit back to back threes and Iowa rallied to only trail by 6 at the half. The Hawkeyes got within three early in the third quarter but USC went on a 18-2 run to rebuild their big lead, 70-51.
Kara Dunn led USC (12-9, 4-6) with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists; Jazzy Davidson had 21 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds; Londynn Jones had 17 points and Kennedy Smith added 12.
Iowa (18-3. 9-1) was led by Journey Houston off the bench with 16 points and 8 rebounds; Ava Heiden had 13 and Hannah Stuelke added 10. Freshman Addie Deal from nearby Irvine, CA made her first ever collegiate start for the injured Taylor McCabe and was held scoreless.
