(Harlan, IA) — The Harlan girls wrestling team will be competing at Regionals on Friday — the Cyclones are in Class 2A Region 4 at Nevada. Harlan is basically right on the cut line from 1A to 2A and has a long trip to make. Head Coach Tarah Devlin says they will really surprised when the regional assignments were released
Harlan has very low numbers this year — just three wrestlers competing and each of them have had to miss time on the mat because of injuries. Sophomore Elle Stephens was a 1A finalist a year ago and this season is 15-2 and ranked #3 in the 2A 130 pound weight class. There are not any other ranked girls in her weight class at regionals but Devlin says there are no guarantees
Junior Hallie Lopez is 16-16 at 140 pounds and Sophomore Danica Schwery is 11-17 at 155. Devlin says its disappointing that the team only has three members this year but hopes to see growth in the future
Other teams competing in the Nevada regional on Friday include Algona, Benton, Boone, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Denison Schleswig, Prairie Cedar Rapids, West Des Moines Valley and Webster City.
