(Iowa City, IA) — Bennett Stirtz hit two free throws with 4.6 seconds left to give Iowa a 73-72 win over USC in a Big Ten men’s basketball game on Wednesday.
The Hawkeyes led by as many as 17 points in the 2nd half but the Trojans Kam Woods scored 12 straight points. Woods actually had 19 straight points for USC and Jacob Cofie gave the Trojans a 72-71 lead with 8 seconds left. However, Jerry Easter fouled Stirtz with 4 seconds left and he hit both free throws. Woods three at the buzzer missed.
Stirtz and Tavion Banks each had 20 points to lead Iowa (15-5, 5-4). Alvaro Folguerias added 14 points off the bench.
Woods scored 33 for USC (15-6, 4-6), Chad Baker-Mazara had 13 points and Ezra Ausar added 10.
