IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa football team added 16 transfers to the 2026 roster on Wednesday.
Iowa did not add a quarterback this year so Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown will more than likely compete for the starting spot. Hecklinski is a Sophomore from Marietta, GA and a transfer from Wake Forest while Brown is a Junior from Nashville, TN and a transfer from Auburn. Iowa also has highly touted recruit Tradon Bessinger coming from Utah.
The Hawkeyes primarily emphasized Wide Receiver on offense with three new additions and on defense added 4 Lineman and 4 Defensive Backs. Iowa also added three kickers including two punters with Boston Everitt coming from the University of Melbourne in Australia.
The team’s chief of staff and general manager, Tyler Barnes, had this to say about the Hawkeye additions.
“We are excited to welcome 16 new transfer student-athletes to the University of Iowa football program,” said Barnes. “As we evaluated the transfer portal, our priority was clear: bring in players who have proven on-field production and multiple years of eligibility remaining. These additions not only strengthen our roster immediately, but also align with our long-term vision for sustained success. Each of these young men brings experience, competitiveness, and a strong desire to develop within our culture, and we’re confident they will have a positive impact both on and off the field.”
