(Ann Arbor, MI) — It had to end sometime and for Nebraska it ended in Michigan. The #3 ranked Wolverines ended the #5 Huskers 24 game win streak with a 75-72 win in a Big Ten men’s basketball game on Tuesday night.
Nebraska did not score in the final three minutes of the game and missed their final five shots after leading most of the game. Trey McKenney hit a tiebreaking lay-up with 1:07 left for Michigan and Jamarques Lawrence missed a three pointer with 4 seconds left and off the rebound Sam Hoiberg missed the final jumper of the game.
The Huskers did play shorthanded — Rienk Mast missed the game with an illness and Braden Frager did not play for the 2nd straight game with an ankle injury.
Nebraska had won 24 in a row dating back to last season including 4 victories in the first ever CBC tournament in Las Vegas. It was the longest winning streak in Division I basketball since Kentucky went 38-0 in the 2014-15 season before losing in the Final Four.
Nebraska (20-1, 9-1) was 11-32 from three point land and led by Pryce Sandfort and Lawrence each with 20 points — Sandfort was 5-16 on his threes. Hoiberg added 13.
Michigan (19-1, 9-1) was led by Morez Johnson Jr. with 17 points and 12 rebounds, McKenney had 11 off the bench and Yaxel Leneborg and Aday Mara each added 10.
