(Sioux City, IA) First responders say no one is injured after a plane landed in a field on Saturday. The Iowa State Patrol told KTIV that two people were on board when the plane landed about a half mile from Sioux Gateway Airport. It came to a stop in a field near the intersection of Andrew Avenue and 225th Street. LightAware indicates the plane took off and made a U-turn back toward the airport about a minute later. The NTSB is investigating the incident.
Airmen Return To Sioux City After Middle East Deployment
(Sioux City, IA) About 100 airmen are back home in Iowa after returning from a Middle East deployment. The 185th Air Refueling Wing was deployed in October. About one-quarter of the unit is back home, with more expected to return from later this year. Officials could not say which countries they were stationed in, but they noted that the unit endured harsh desert conditions. The airmen specialize in aerial refueling missions with the KC-135 that refuels other planes in midair.
Des Moines Public Schools Faces Push Back On Moulton Demolition
(Des Moines, IA) Des Moines Public Schools officials could be denied approval to demolish Moulton Elementary School. City leaders are set to decide if the century-old elementary school should be declared a historical landmark. City Council members will decide during Monday’s meeting. School district leaders announced plans to overhaul the building as part of a $256 million bond program and intend to transform the elementary school into the Moulton Arts Academy. It would become a school for visual and performing arts.
Sioux City Issues More Housing Permits In 2025
(Sioux City, IA) The Sioux City real estate market is seeing more new housing permits compared to recent years. The city permitted 202 housing units in 2025, up from 140 in 2024 and 138 in 2023. The extra permits are seen as potential relief for a market that has been struggling to address a housing shortage and high prices. City administrators say the numbers reflect a range of decisions by many people, not just a result of one or two big projects. They say the total number of units built last year is much higher than in any year since they started keeping track in 2016.
Okoboji Winter Games Bring Thousands Despite Arctic Blast

Participants and spectators layered up to battle the cold and the competition at the event designed to combat the winter blues. Organizers say it wasn’t the coldest rendition of the event. One year, the actual temperature was minus 22. While there were sports on hand, including a 5k run, some of the attendees were there to show support and have a good time.
