(Jefferson County) Adverse weather conditions are being blamed for a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a teen in Jefferson County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened on Saturday night at around 10:18 p.m. in the 2100 block of Hemlock Avenue and Cedar Creek. Authorities say 18-year-old Emmelia Miller, of Fairfield, Iowa, died in the crash. Two other people were hurt in the accident. The State Police identified the injured parties as 25-year-old James Lyman, of Fairfield, and 24-year-old Ashlyn Hotchkiss of Urbana, Iowa.
According to the report, Miller was driving a 2009 Lexus northbound on Hemlock Avenue and lost control of the car due to weather conditions. The Lexis was struck by a 2025 Dodge truck driven by 20-year-old Morgan Anderson of Fairfield.
Officials say Lyman was not transported. Jefferson County Ambulance transported Hotchkiss to the University of Iowa Hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
