(Des Moines) Gasoline prices in Iowa continued to decline this week, falling 4 cents from last week to an average of $2.47 per gallon, according to AAA’s weekly fuel report released Wednesday.
Prices are now 43 cents lower than this time a year ago. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline stood at $2.83, down 1 cent from last week.
Crude oil prices also moved lower. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $1.23 per barrel to $60.42, while Brent crude dropped $1.15 to $64.92. One year ago, WTI was selling for $76.79 per barrel and Brent crude for $80.57.
Diesel prices in Iowa rose this week, increasing 12 cents to a statewide average of $3.32 per gallon. Despite the increase, diesel remains 21 cents cheaper than the national average of $3.53 and below last year’s Iowa average of $3.45.
Heating fuel prices were mixed. Natural gas rose $1.78 at the Henry Hub, bringing the price to $4.87 per million British thermal units. Propane averaged $1.57 per gallon across Iowa, while home heating oil averaged $2.75 per gallon statewide.
