(Corning, IA) — Atlantic went back-to-back, winning the 71st John J. Harris wrestling tournament on Saturday at Southwest Valley High School.  The Trojans had two champions and finished with 230.5 points ahead of Riverside in 2nd place with 209.  AC/GC had a solid third place finish with 2 champs with 151.5 points.  Winterset was 4th with 144 and Shenandoah rounded out the top five with 124.  Nodaway Valley was 6th with 115.5.

Keaton Schroeder and Braxton Hass were the champs for Atlantic — Schroeder beat Kline Kiburz of Winterset 8-0 in the 120 finals and improved to 38-8 while Hass knocked the #1 seed Judah Gurwell of Winterset 12-5 in the finals at 132 to go to 43-6.

Dayton Van Horn was 2nd at 106; Kalvin Hayes 2nd at 150; and Jayden Harder 2nd at 157.  Donovan Hedrington finished 3rd at 190; Travin Thomas was 3rd at 215; and Collin Harris was 3rd at 126.

Landon Hagen and Dreven Smith both finished in 5th place for the Trojans and both faced tough competition.  At 138, Hagen got a win over 1A #9 Keyin Steeve of Nodaway Valley going 4-2 overall.  165 was the toughest bracket by far with 7 ranked wrestlers and Smith went 4-2, beating three ranked kids (1A #4 Max Shanno of Riverside 7-4, 1A #9 Blake Schwartz of Panorama 16-15 and 1A #8 Fischer Buckingham of Wayne by fall at 2:55).  Smith lost to 2A #2 Jacob McGargill of Shenandoah at 1:22 and 1A #6 Uriah Fry of Clarke at 1:15.

Cooper Woolsey also finished 5th at 285 for the Trojans.

Riverside had two champs:  Drew Anderson at 138 won by tech fall over 1A #7 Max Pollock of Wayne and Kingston Carrigan beat Kylen Parsons of Creston by tech fall at 126.  Wyatt Bell had a great tournament for the Bulldogs finishing 2nd at 215 despite a 13-17 record coming into Friday, Bell got two falls on Friday and earned an escape late in the third period to beat Jason Morrow of Centerville 9-8 then lost in the finals to Carter Richter of AC/GC at 2:47.

AC/GC had two champs including Richter at 215 and Ryder Cline at 150 8-5 over Kalvin Hayes of Atlantic.

Nodaway Valley had two champs with Caleb Christensen and Ashton Honnold both staying undefeated on the season.  Honnold improved to 42-0 on the season at 285 with a tech fall win over Gunner Martwick of Creston.  Honnold is only 12 wins away from 200 in this career.  Christensen pinned his way to the title at 190 — in the finals he faced Brian Snyder of Centerville who had 3 pins in all under a minute but Christensen pinned him in 40 seconds and is now 42-0.
