Nebraska men’s basketball team improves to 20-0 by beating Minnesota and the Huskers women got a hard earned win against Illinois.
The 7th ranked men were at Minnesota which is a tough place to play but the Huskers rolled 76-57, after trailing 36-30 at halftime. Pryce Sandfort scored 20 of his 22 points in the 2nd half to lead the comeback. Cale Jacobsen made a three pointer at the 13:37 mark to give Nebraska a 44-42 lead. Sandfort hit a triple to give the Huskers an 8 point lead and Jamarques Lawrence was fouled shooting a three and made all the foul shots to make it an 11 point lead. Then Sandfort hit another three to make it 62-48 with 6:56 left.
Sandfort was 4-10 from three point land and added 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists and 2 steals for Nebraska (20-0, 9-0). Lawrence and Sam Hoiberg each added 14 points.
Minnesota (10-10, 3-6) was led by Bobby Durkin with 16 points.
#24 ranked Nebraska women beat Illinois 81-75. Britt Prince led the way for the Huskers with 20 points and hit a jumper early in the 2nd half to give them a 43-24 lead which was their biggest of the game. The Illini cut the lead to 56-44 at the end of three quarters but made things interesting late in the 4th quarter when they got the game under double figures. Destiny Jackson made 2 free throws to make it 71-65 Nebraska with 1:45 left but could not get it any closer.
Prince was 8-8 from the free throw line for Nebraska (15-5, 4-5) while Logan Nissley and Jessica Petrie each had 15 points while Petra Bozan added 11 off the bench.
Illinois (15-5, 5-4) had 25 points and 11 rebounds from Cearah Parchment and Berry Wallace added 22.
